Acid in Your Diet Downtown Dental Care OR 97205Foods and drinks are known to be acidic. However, you should know that they can also remove acid from your diet.

This can harm your teeth by stripping minerals from its enamel.

Ways of Cutting Down Acid in Your Diet

Understanding how bad acid is for your diet, you'll want to find foods that will help cut down on the amount of acid you have in your body. One such food is vegetables, especially the bitter ones. These include raw spinach, parsley, celery, garlic and barley grass.

If you're the type of person who really doesn't like vegetables, maybe fruit is a better option for you. While a lot of fruits like oranges, lemons and citrus fruits are naturally acidic, they can actually help you to reduce the amount of acid that's in your body.

As they're broken down, they stimulate the production of alkaline chemicals, which is responsible for neutralizing the acid in your body.

You also shouldn't overlook proteins. Although many types of meat produce acid in your body, there are some other great sources of protein available. This includes most nuts, pumpkin seeds, squash seeds, sunflower seeds and flax seeds. Fermented soy, eggs, whey protein, yogurt, and millet are other great options.

Additionally, you can add various spices to your diet to neutralize any excess acid that's there. Your best options include curry, cinnamon, miso, mustard, and ginger. Most herbs are also beneficial here.

Try as you might, sometimes you can't cut down enough on the acid in your diet. You may not even be able to eat enough of these foods to make a difference.

If you feel like you're having problems here and that it's affecting the enamel on your teeth, make sure you get in touch with us. We will help you keep your smile healthy regardless of your eating habits.
