You have your favorite pajamas. You have your favorite pillow and blanket to keep you warm. When you snuggle down to sleep, the last thing you are probably thinking about is your teeth- but you should be.
That's because while you are sleeping, you are either helping your teeth be their best, or you are making a nice home for bacteria. Not sure how to protect your teeth if you are not awake? Keep reading for some additional information on keeping your teeth strong and healthy while you sleep.
Strength in Sleep Before you go to bed, brush your teeth and floss them. That way, your mouth is nice and clean while you are sleeping. While you may be tempted to go to bed without brushing your teeth, it is one of the worst things you can do, because if you don't brush and floss your teeth before bed, the bacteria in your mouth have all night to eat away at your pearly whites.
Over time, that can increase your chance of cavities. Also, if you don't floss, plaque has the opportunity to build up in between your teeth- making a nice home for bacteria. After you brush and floss, rinse up with a little mouthwash as well. This will allow you to get your teeth as clean as possible before bed.
After you've done all that work to make your teeth as clean as possible, don't mess it up by eating. Also, don't drink anything sugary before you go to bed as well, because eating or drinking before you sleep erases all the hard work you did to brush and floss your teeth in the first place.
